Although this blog is mostly about vintage toys and collectibles, I will throw in some modern goodies that are worthy of mentioning.
My favorite action figure line to collect is G.I. JOE. I will focus some posts on various vintage Joes at a later time, but right now I will spotlight the amazing and awesome 25th anniversary line.
The 25th Anniversary G.I. JOE line was Hasbro's 23rd through 25th Series, and was started in 2007. It lasted till the beginning of 2009, just before the movie Rise Of Cobra came out. Included in this anniversary collection are vintage style Joe heroes and Cobra villains created with newer molds. The new molds looks amazingly similar to their vintage counterparts, and are complemented with great accessories. The notable figures from the first wave in the series in 2007 include: Duke, Flint, Scarlett, Shipwreck and, of course, Snake Eyes. As the series was wrapping up in 2009, the even more amazing 25th Hall Of Heroes Internet exclusives came out. I, unfortunately, came late into collecting this line (around 2009), but I was able to grab many of them, including some Hall Of Heroes figures, at discount stores such as TJ Maxx. You can easily still find this line online, or at collectible shows.
Here are some Highlights that I have of these G.I. JOE's:
I feel a carded example would be great to start out with. Here is a Cobra Eel; one figure that that I really had to hunt for.
My First 25th Joe was Cobra Commander. I have always wanted the silver face Cobra Commander and I snagged him for $4 at Frank and Sons back in like 2008.
Cobra Commander Ver. 24
One of my Favorites, the Cobra B.A.T.
Snake Eyes (Ver. 34.) The 25th Remake of V3, one of my most favorite Joes ever.
Sgt. Bazooka (Ver. 3)
Found him at the thrift store, it was the figure only. A short time later a fellow member of an action figure forum hooked me up with the accessories. The bazooka belongs to a 25th Snow Serpent, but I don't care its the same mold, just a grey strap instead of a green which Bazooka came with. I always loved Bazooka when I saw him on the old sunbow G.I. JOE cartoons.
Lady Jaye (Version 8)
Lady Jaye Came with the G.I. Joe Set from 2009. I got it for a great deal last year (2012) from an action figure forum trade.
When I really started getting into the 25th Joes and tracking them down at TJ Maxx, I looked all over for a Cobra Eel version 4 from 2008. I never did find him at retail, but I did find one MOC at Frank and Sons for $5. Excellent deal considering most other dealers were selling him for $8-$15 at the time.
Cobra Eel Ver. 4
Sgt. Airborne
Got these for my birthday a few years ago (2011) from Amazon
Flash, Cobra Diver, Cobra Trooper and Cobra Air-Viper.
Another picture of Flash
Cobra Diver
Drednok Ripper
Tripwire
Cobra Ninja Viper
Tiger Force Duke (Ver. 28)
Some other troopers I found at TJ Maxx were the Cobra Bazooka Trooper, and the Para-Viper. The Cobra Viper I found at a Dollar Type Store
Cobra Bazooka Trooper
I found a Cobra HISS from 2000 (The one that came with the Rip It figure)from the thrift store for $1. I wanted to get a driver for it, so I bought the 25th HISS driver for cheap from Amazon. Little did I know he didn't fit.
Cobra H.I.S.S. Driver (Ver. 2)
Cpl. Breaker Ver. 1
He came with a 25th RAM Cycle, but I bought him separate
I remember Passing on this set when I saw it at TJ Maxx back in 2010. I have always thought about it and have wanted it since then. When I received and Amazon gift card last year for Christmas, I jumped on the chance to get it for a decent price.
Rock'N'Roll and Deep Six (2-pack #25) from 2008.
Wild Bill and Scrap Iron (2-pack #12) from 2008
Hall Of Heroes included: Beachhead, B.A.T., Cobra Viper, Crimson Guard, Firefly, Flint, 2 versions of Snake Eyes, Storm Shadow, and Zartan.
I was only able to get a hold of Flint, Firefly, and Crimson Guard. The Firefly comes with an abundance of cool accessories, and the Crimson Guard has head and a helmet.
Thats all for the 25th Anniversary Joes, please let me know what you like dislike about them in the comments below!
